Jasahn Larsosa (he/his) is an accomplished organizer, nonprofit and business executive, instructional designer, and IDEA trainer/facilitator. He is Principal Consultant of Krystal Klir Communications, overseeing operations, cultivating partnerships and developing data-driven methodologies for change. He also serves as Founding Director of Advocacy, Equity, and Community Empowerment for the Detroit-based but nationally renowned civil rights and human services organization Focus: HOPE. As a nonprofit leader, Jasahn has attracted and managed over $10 million in new grants, gifts, and government contracts to support youth, safety net, economic mobility, community research, and advocacy initiatives.
As an IDEA/DEI leader, he’s trained more than 5,000 executives and contributors across the United States and over 30 countries though his award-winning programs. Larsosa is a published researcher, serving as Principal Investigator for Community-based Participatory Action Research projects in partnership with University of Michigan and Wayne State University to improve outcomes for Black youth by promoting mental health and equity centered education and employment programs.
He earned his undergrad in communications and counseling psychology at Ball State University. He’s a Detroit BMe Vanguard Fellow and member of the Campaign for Black Male Achievement (CBMA), Detroit Disability Power, Black Men Build, and Detroit Black Community Food Security Network. He is a partnership supervisor for Detroit Equity Action Lab (DEAL), Challenge Detroit, and Detroit Revitalization fellowships. He serves on a number of boards and advisory committees, including the Employment Equity Learning Community; Superhero Training Academy; Black America Rising; the City of Detroit’s Community Health Assessment (CHA); the City of Detroit’s Community Health Implementation Plan (CHIP); the State of Michigan’s Coronavirus Task Force on Racial Disparities; the State of Michigan’s Implicit Bias Training Workgroup; the University of Michigan’s Community-based Research on Equity, Activism, & Transformative Education (CREATE) Center, and the HOPE Village Urban Learning & Leadership Collaborative.
As an organizer, Jasahn has engaged over 15 thousand volunteers to advance community agendas. He is also a committed mentor, currently supporting the development of dozens of social justice and DEI professionals and leaders.
Jasahn enjoys reading, writing, and taking long walks. He also enjoys nature, camping, and traveling the country in his family’s RV. He is a loving and supportive husband of his wife and childhood sweetheart Krystal, and devoted dad to their three young daughters, Karis, Kady, and Klir. The family is active in their Detroit neighborhood.
