Tinu (She/her) is a Detroit-based community organizer, Black feminist political strategist, healer, entrepreneur, wife, and mother 4 partneriing with Krystal Klir as a group facilitator and trainer. She also works as a strategist and organizer with We the People of Michigan (WTP Action Fund) hosting workshops and public discussions while leading advocacy campaigns promoting education justice. She is founder, owner and operator of Tinu’s Boutique, a natural and hand-made beauty products and holistics store, which facilitates self-care, reflection and cleansing.
Tinu began her activism over 5 years ago as Co-Founder and President of HOPE Village Families, a community organization in partnership with Focus: HOPE, a Detroit-based and nationally renowned civil rights and human services organization. There, she cultivated a base of people to address community issues. Since then, Tinu has been a trainer and facilitator for dozens of workshops, conferences, listening sessions and private organizational training, with a special focus on Black organizing, foundational skills of organizing, and healing in organizing.
Tinu was born in Detroit, and raised between Michigan and Florida by a network of loving family members including her mom, dad, grandparents, aunts, and uncles. She aims to make those closest to the margins the focal point of all her work.
Tinu is a past recipient of Michigan Community Resources’ Power of One Dedicated Woman award, an alumnus of AmeriCorps Volunteers In Service To America (VISTA) and Black Organizing For Leadership & Dignity (BOLD), and a number of other fellowships. She is a Black Momentum Facilitator and practices Generative Somatics in organizing. She is an active member in her community and of 482Forward, a Detroit-based education advocacy organization.
She lives in Detroit but enjoys traveling, including regular long trips to Africa with her husband.
